Crestron Home Design & Programming

Crestron Home, designed and managed like the rest of the house.

Crestron Home is a serious, well-engineered automation platform — standardised, manufacturer-supported, and the right product for a great many residences. We design and manage residences on Crestron Home with the same rigour we bring to a fully custom system: master plan, equipment specification, integration management, commissioning, and the long relationship that follows.

What Crestron Home actually is.

A turnkey, manufacturer-maintained smart-home product. The user interface is pre-built. The scene library is pre-built. The device drivers are certified by Crestron themselves and updated on a published cadence — roughly every six weeks — over the air. Day-to-day adjustments can be made by the household via an iPad setup app, without an integrator on site.

It is the closest thing in the residential automation world to a piece of consumer electronics that happens to run an entire house. Like any well-designed product, its character comes partly from what it refuses to do.

Where Crestron Home is the right answer.

The platform was designed with a particular profile of residence in mind. Inside that profile it is excellent — faster to commission, more stable to maintain, easier to live with. Outside it, the template begins to ask the household to live around its limits.

i.

Primary residences of moderate scale.

Up to roughly 6,000–8,000 square feet, with a manageable subsystem count. Where the system is large enough to need a thoughtful platform but contained enough to fit comfortably within Crestron Home’s native framework.

ii.

Households that want a product, not a commission.

A principal who wants the system to feel like a well-made appliance — the way one might prefer Sonos to a custom-tuned listening room. Not because either is wrong, but because the desired relationship to the technology is different.

iii.

Pied-à-terre, second homes, guest residences.

Where the principal wants the same shape of experience as elsewhere in the portfolio without commissioning a second bespoke build. Crestron Home is a quiet, supported choice for those properties.

iv.

Quick deployment timelines.

Where the architect’s programme and the move-in date will not accommodate a custom commission. Crestron Home stands up in weeks; a custom system unfolds over months and returns over years.

v.

Households that want self-serve changes.

Where the principal or the estate manager expects to make day-to-day adjustments themselves — renaming a scene, re-pointing a button, adding a new dimmer to a room — without scheduling an integrator visit.

vi.

Manufacturer support as a feature.

Where forward-compatibility, certified drivers, and update cadence are handled by Crestron themselves rather than by a programmer of record. True Blue 24/7 dealer support sits behind every installation.

How we engage on a Crestron Home residence.

A Crestron Home commission is not less considered than a Custom one — it is differently considered. The platform handles the standard work; we handle the design, the specification, and the management.

a.

Design & specification.

We design the technology programme of the residence end-to-end — lighting, shading, climate, AV, security, network — on the architectural drawings. Equipment is specified to the manufacturer’s certified library; the system is sized for the household’s pattern, not for a generic floor plan.

b.

Integration management.

We coordinate the trades, run the commissioning, and manage the dealer who installs the platform. Where the residence requires a partial Custom layer for HVAC, BMS, or BACnet bridging, we write that layer ourselves — and tie it cleanly into the Crestron Home installation.

c.

The relationship after handover.

Crestron Home is built for self-serve adjustment, but a Wenner-tradition consultancy does not disappear after commissioning. We remain the household’s point of contact for refinement, expansion, and the move to Custom if the residence ever earns it.

d.

A migration path to Custom.

Crestron Home and Crestron Custom run on the same family of hardware. A residence that begins on Home can be migrated to a Custom build when the brief earns it — without re-cabling, without replacing the touchpanels, without disrupting the household’s daily life.

Deciding between Crestron Home and Custom.

The choice is rarely about preference. It is about scope — the subsystems involved, the integration depth, the user experience expected from the surface, the cadence at which the household wants to make changes. We have published the framework we use with clients deciding between the two.

A conversation, in your own words.

The first conversation is simply to understand whether Crestron Home is the right platform for the residence — and, if it is, what an Intuitiv-managed Crestron Home commission looks like end-to-end.
