Custom Crestron Programming

Crestron, written by hand — for the residence, not from a template.

Crestron is the largest residential automation platform in the world. Most installations ship a manufacturer template; ours don’t. Every line of code, every scene, every panel screen is composed in-house by the senior engineer assigned to the residence — natively, on Crestron’s own toolchain, under Crestron’s own licensing.

What “custom” actually means.

A fully bespoke automation platform, programmed from the ground up. Every interface, every automation routine, every third-party integration is custom-coded against the brief — not configured from a wizard, not assembled from a driver portal, not constrained by what a manufacturer’s OS chooses to expose.

The result is a system with virtually unlimited capability: complex conditional logic, schedules, triggers, and cross-system interactions to any specification the residence requires. Engineered for large estates and high subsystem counts. Native BACnet IP. Direct integration with commercial-grade DDC and BMS platforms. Any device with a published protocol — integrated.

Two frameworks, one practice.

Crestron is not a single tool but a stack that has evolved over twenty years. We work across the current generation and the legacy stack — new builds on the modern framework, careful retrofit on the older one.

i.

Crestron CH5.

The current-generation HTML5 / JavaScript framework. Where new builds live. Web-native rendering, modern motion, and the canvas on which our Tahoe interface is composed. Touchpanels, mobile companions, and in-wall surfaces unified under one design language.

ii.

VT Pro & SmartGraphics.

The legacy stack. Where most Crestron systems built before 2020 still live. We maintain residences on it, refine them in place, and migrate them to CH5 when the brief earns the lift. The principal’s system does not need to be rewritten to be improved.

Independent, manufacturer-agnostic.

We work directly in each platform’s own programming tools — Crestron’s and Lutron’s — rather than running them through a layer that flattens both to whatever a third-party tool can express. Where the two systems need to coordinate — a Crestron scene that closes a Lutron shade, a Lutron timeclock that triggers a Crestron mode — we wire them together at the system level, not through a generic translator.

The independence works the other way too. We do not propose a system simply because it is the one we sell. The platform serves the residence. Where Crestron Home is the right answer, we say so — and we design and manage the system on Crestron Home.

Read the Crestron Home vs Custom comparison

A senior engineer, by name, for the life of the system.

Every residence is assigned a programmer of record. The same person writes the lighting scenes and the touchpanel layout and the climate logic; the same person delivers handover in person; the same person returns when the household’s pattern changes, when a room is added, when a new piece of gear is brought in.

This is the deliberate tradeoff for unlimited capability. Custom Crestron is a long relationship, not a transaction — closer to that of an architect or a tailor than of a vendor. The quality of a Custom system is directly tied to the skill of the programmer; we engage senior engineers, and we do not subcontract.

Where the residences are.

Vancouver-founded; in service across four regions. Programming engagements travel — the senior engineer attends the residence for handover and for refinement visits over the life of the system.

·

California

Coastal residences and inland estates. Custom Crestron for households whose surface, scenes, and integration depth exceed what a templated platform can hold. Active commission; completed residences in service.

·

Texas

Ranch typology and metropolitan residences. Completed Custom Crestron systems in service for households whose scope reached beyond Crestron Home’s native framework.

·

Florida

Coastal architecture, storm hardening, and humidity management. Active commission for a household whose scenes carry across guest, principal, and staff use.

·

Greece

Mediterranean light and masonry construction. Active commission. Custom Crestron tied into Lutron HomeWorks for shading layered against solar load and elevation.

·

Mexico City

Altitude, courtyards, and mid-century modern stock. Active commission. Custom Crestron written for a residence where the architecture and the household’s pattern both ask the system to be quiet.

·

Pacific Northwest

Cedar, rain, and the long winter light of the founding region. Active commission. The home market — and the residences against which our practice was first measured.

A conversation, in your own words.

The first conversation is simply to understand whether Custom Crestron is the right platform for the residence. Where it isn’t, we will say so. Where it is, we will tell you what the engagement looks like — and how long it will take. We accept a small number of programming engagements each year, typically booked twelve to eighteen months ahead.
